Dijo que su madre tuvo que vivir fingiendo lo que no era porque no quería avergonzar a sus hijos.
Gloria Carter salió del closet en la canción de Jay Z de 2017 «Smile» (Sonríe), que incluye su poema «Livin in the Shadows» (Viviendo en las sombras).
